As we worked on short stories, before they wrote their own I had the students look at different lengths of extremely short stories so they can see the easiest ways to include every aspect and get a chance to start practicing coming up with their own ideas.

With the classes they each had to read short stories written by indigenous authors and we discussed them in class with our short story elements presented earlier
